I want my presence on the City Council to be a complete reflection of what the Ward 1 residents want to see in their community. Use online options as a guide to gauge what the ward wants to see done, where they want our city to be heading overall, and have that directly reflected in my voting. I also want (as many other residents want) financial transparency for Council funding decisions regarding the use of TIF, where the budget is going and most importantly, why.
I want to continue to maintain and support fully funded Fire, Police, and EMT departments. Wisely and carefully incorporating some of the mental health commission’s recommendations.
Making sure that our schools continue to attract families who want a solid education for their children through funding and community engagement. I want to make sure we’re making needed updates and investments in our older schools instead of just focusing on building new ones out south.
We all know the Vision Metcalf plan that has been put in to place. I feel that Sub Area 1, the area north of Shawnee Mission Parkway needs to be reevaluated as well. I would also like the council to investigate what we can do to help solid, long lasting businesses develop on their own, without government financial support; as well as work with our neighboring city councils in Shawnee, Mission, Prairie Village, and Merriam to help develop plans going forward for business development along shared major routes.
